Subliminal Messages

Facebook and Twitter have become extremely popular over the last few months or so... Updating your status with Who, What, When, Where and Why are the most popular and even new - adding your favorite quotes, life lessons and philosphical thoughts! But I most often find that people are just looking either for attention (which is cool) or to send a subliminal message to some specific person, which I think is most often the case. According to Wikipedia, a subliminal message is "a hidden or covert message embedded in another signal, designed to pass below the normal limits of the human consciousness. These messages are unrecognizable by the conscious mind, but in certain situations can affect the subconscious mind and can negatively or positively influence subsequent later thoughts, behaviors, actions, attitudes, belief systems and value systems."

Lately, I've read a lot of "status updates" and "messages" and I have been super analyzing them b/c something inside my soul tells me "this person is indirectly saying something to someone". Sometimes subliminal messages can be super fun and even cute when they are positive or show someone how your feeling (of course POSITIVE) or even that your thinking about them but in most cases, they can be offensive and negative. Sending ppl negative feelings through subliminal messages only shows that you can't communicate to the person how you're really feeling. In my opinion, you create the message b/c your looking for someone to ask you "what does that mean?" or "whats wrong?" b/c you clearly can't tell the person that the message is about how your feeling towards them! If your feeling "emotional", the best thing to do is speak up! I've learned the hard way about not communicating my feelings and in the long run it always comes back to bite you in the ass... I can admit that I have sent subliminal messages but they have almost ALWAYS been me feeding off of the other persons message - kind of like a strike back! But as time goes by, I realize that is exactly what they want us to do - feed into the bullsh*t!

YES - subliminal messages are ways to communicate but you almost never get a positive response from the person you are indirectly sending the message to! I like to say if someone has you "in your feelings" talk to them, if not "MAN UP" and get over it... but spare ppl the mumbo jumbo b/c at the end of the day the people that asked you about your "message" really don't give a damn about the real meaning - they are just nosey and want to hear the latest GOSSIP!!

  1. LOL so true! Some people just say things so people would ask or to imply something, why not just get to the point? And if you aren't willing to share/clarify then don't post anything about it so publicly. You should post this one as a note in FB and other social sites lol.
